Space-saving and functional, built-ins are perfect for a new home! They allow you to create storage right where you need it and give character to any space. There are endless types of built-ins you can have in your home but in this post, we discuss some of the most popular ones.
KITCHEN: Kitchens are one of the best places to have built-ins, since it’s a place where you want to really maximize your space. Built-in shelves and cabinets are already a standard in many homes, but don’t be afraid to think outside the box and get creative! A custom-built wine rack or wet bar, appliance cabinet or banquette are great ideas to add comfort and storage to any kitchen.

BEDROOMS/LIVING AREAS: Bedrooms, living/family rooms and offices are excellent places to put built-in storage. These areas all accumulate an immense amount of “stuff” over time and built-ins are perfect for keeping everything in order. For bedrooms, built-in beds for kids or window seats are creative ways to not only make the room unique, but incorporate some storage underneath the structures as well. For those with a massive clothes and shoes collection, walk-in closets with built-in cubbies, shelving and drawers are ideal. An avid reader or a family that seems to collect items at random, would benefit from built-in bookshelves to bring order to what could be chaos.
BATHROOM: Bathrooms are the most desired place to add storage in a home. Whether you are working with a small guest bathroom or large master suite, storage space is key. Built-in shelves next to the sink for toiletries is a great idea when trying to make the most out of the space. If space allows, having plenty of built-in drawers and cabinets under the vanity sink make for a hassle-free morning.
OTHER: We’ve already covered functional laundry rooms in a previous post, but it’s still worth mentioning that these areas are great places to put built-in shelving in. Having a nearby place where detergent or an iron is stored makes doing laundry less tasking. Built-in cubbies in a mudroom is essential for many families and helps keep everything in its rightful place.
