Step 1: Set goals
You will need to figure out exactly how and when you want to achieve them. You can ask yourself, "What do I want the finished product to be like?", "How much will this cost?", and "What is the timeline?"
Step 2: Establish a budget
You first need to figure out your income, established payments each month, expenses, and how much of that can be a new mortgage payment. Once you figure out the maximum you can "afford", you can discuss the details that come along with a new construction project like landscaping, decorating, and new furniture. Keep in mind, of course, that every journey can have side items get in the way. Little things come up or are changed, so make sure these don't bust your budget.
Step 3: Find some land
Find out where you need to be. Is there a certain town or part of town you would like to live in? Is there a subdivision that just speaks to you? Is it a specific school district or near your workplace? These all come into play and you must have these in mind before speaking to a builder.
