Step 1: Set goals
You will need to figure out exactly how and when you want to achieve them. You can ask yourself, "What do I want the finished product to be like?", "How much will this cost?", and "What is the timeline?"
Step 2: Establish a budget
You first need to figure out your income, established payments each month, expenses, and how much of that can be a new mortgage payment. Once you figure out the maximum you can "afford", you can discuss the details that come along with a new construction project like landscaping, decorating, and new furniture. Keep in mind, of course, that every journey can have side items get in the way. Little things come up or are changed, so make sure these don't bust your budget.
Step 3: Find some land
Find out where you need to be. Is there a certain town or part of town you would like to live in? Is there a subdivision that just speaks to you? Is it a specific school district or near your workplace? These all come into play and you must have these in mind before speaking to a builder.
Step 4: Pick your team
Choosing a home builder is the biggest decision you will make. Visit their open houses (we host plenty!) and see their past work. You can drive by homes they have sold in the past and see if their style appeals to you. You may also visit their offices, such as our Design Center, to see what they're about.
Step 5: Plan, plan, plan
Now the decisions start flowing. You must start thinking of what do I really need? What if I cannot get exactly what I want? How do I want this to go? Is there a timeline to follow? When do I need to be in the new house? Building a Miller Construction single-family home in Central IL is a fun journey, so you must be ready to go with the flow.
Step 6: Accept the inevitable
Not everything will be perfect. The weather interrupts the excavation process. Or the garage doors show up a day late. Things will happen, it's just part of the job. Your home will be completed in a very timely manner with Miller Construction and we will accomodate your every need. Now your home is in process, and you get the fun jobs of decision after decision of picking your interior and exterior finishes.
Step 7: Enjoy!
Your home is finished, your mortgage is closed upon, and now you are moving in. You see that floor plan of your dreams transformed into your new living space. Your family and yourself can join your wants, needs, and now your reality.
